Ice Cream for breakfast anyone?

Fun all around when you can have ice cream for breakfast, just ask the learners and staff from Oriah Pre- and Primary School in Vanderbijlpark.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – To have ice cream for breakfast is probably an unreachable dream for many.

It’s something that’s usually frowned upon. On 28 February 2023, the Oriah Pre- and Primary School in Vanderbijlpark officially had ice cream for breakfast. Not just the learners but the teachers too.

The day was organised by Ms. Lizélle Wilkinson in honour of International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day which is celebrated on 4 February each year.

According to the website daysoftheyear.com, this day was created in the 1960s when a housewife from New York, Florence Rappaport invented the day to entertain her children.

It seems they were all snowed in and bored when she decided that they all could have ice cream for breakfast.

The next year her six children insisted on having ice cream for breakfast again on 4 February and from that day on it became a family tradition.

In later years her grandchildren traveled the globe and wherever they went they introduced people to their special day.

Over the past 60 years, Ice Cream for Breakfast Day has grown to be celebrated in countries all over the world, from Germany to Nepal to as far as Namibia.

Lizélle heard of this day and decided it would be the perfect special day to celebrate at Oriah.

She organised an ice cream van all the way from Sasolburg and everybody enjoyed their special treat.
