Rotarian Marie Chase passes away at 91

All throughout her life she was involved with humanitarian projects, such as the establishment of the Thabo Vuyo School for the physically challenged.

VEREENIGING. – Marie Chase (91), a well-known philanthropist, Rotarian and realator, passed away on Friday 1 December.

Marie, a trained physiotherapist who later entered the real estate business, was married to Tony Chase, founder of the well-known Vereeniging-based real estate firm Chase & Sons.

Tony, who was also a Rotarian, passed away in 2005.

According to friends, Marie had been struggling with her health the past couple of years.

She fell a couple of times and is said to have suffered a stroke a few months ago.

On Monday, December 27th she was admitted to hospital after feeling unwell.

On Friday 1 December at around 05:45 she passed away in her hospital bed.

Marie and her husband Tony were District Governor and District Governor Ann in 1986-1987.

According to friends she was remarkable and a brilliant entertainer who featured in Huisgenoot Magazine in the 1980’s with the delicious food she prepared for a feature of fine dining.

She enjoyed travelling and visited many countries in her liftime.

She was involved with the Rotary in some way or another since joining the organisation in 1986.

She joined the Rotary Club of Vereeniging in 2011.

Marie was involved in the establishing the Thabo Vuyo School for the physically challeged and also assisted Rotary with the donation of play equipment for this school for the physically handicapped.
