Luthando Academy hosts a three-bill theatre show

VEREENIGING .– The vibrant theatrical landscape of the Vaal region experienced a revival as the Luthando Arts Academy recently presented a striking three-night triple-bill theatre show at the esteemed Vereeniging Civic Theatre. This event marked a significant milestone in rekindling the local theatre scene and showcasing the remarkable talent cultivated by Luthando Academy.

The three-night spectacle featured a diverse lineup of productions, each with its distinct style and creative direction.

“Sehokolo,” crafted by Katlego Dlamini, kicked off the series, weaving an intriguing tale of suspense that had the audience engrossed. Dlamini’s storytelling prowess was evident in the intricate plotlines and complex character development within “Sehokolo,” skilfully portrayed by a talented cast including Timothy Mthimkhulu, Karabo Mofokeng, and Sabata Mofokeng.

Nomasonto Radebe’s “Masidiba” paid homage to the women who fervently fought for democracy, delivered by two of the academy’s trainees, Refiloe Nhlapo and Seipati Tshwaela. The three-part theatre show reached its pinnacle with “Dominion,” exploring the concept of human power and its potential for abuse, depicting the rise and fall of a misguided individual. The production boasted stellar performances from artists such as Timothy Mthimkhulu, Katlego Dlamini, Lonwabo Bhele, Seipati Tshwaela, Refiloe Nhlapo, Nomasonto Radebe, Karabo Mofokeng, and Sabata Mofokeng.

Speaking to Ster South about the shows, co-founding director of Luthando, Katlego Dlamini, expressed his excitement, noting the premiere of ‘Sehokolo’ and ‘Masidiba,’ highlighting the extensive global reach of ‘Dominion.’ Dlamini stressed the significance of showcasing their productions in the region, aiming to reignite the local theatre culture. He emphasised the missing audience development in the Vaal and the need to reintroduce this artistic lifestyle.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Dlamini expressed contentment seeing the large turnout to support the theatre, fulfilling a long-cherished dream. He reaffirmed their commitment to revitalising the community’s vibrancy by taking these productions to various locations in the Vaal, continuing their impactful artistic endeavours.
