Mamello residents acquire knowledge on domestic violence

Somikazi Msungubali, a social worker assistant, provided education to the community regarding the hazards of domestic violence.

SEDIBENG.- The Vaal Marina South African Police Service (SAPS) conducted a workplace intervention on domestic violence to educate the Mamello settlement community recently.

Vaal Marina SAPS, in collaboration with AGAPE Lerato Community Services, organised a campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence. Somikazi Msungubali, a social worker assistant, provided education to the community regarding the hazards of domestic violence.

An analysis of the different types of domestic violence, highlighting its impact on women, children at school, and men in households or workplaces. Msungubali also advised them on where to report instances of domestic violence.

The Domestic Violence Coordinator from Vaal Marina SAPS further elaborated on protection orders, explaining the entire procedure, who is eligible to apply for it, and where to apply. Pamphlets on domestic violence were distributed during the campaign.

Constable Tshilidzi De Huis, spokesperson for Vaal Marina SAPS, expressed satisfaction with the presentation, stating that members of the Community Work Programme (CWP) were actively engaged, and questions posed indicated that the community was attentive.
