SHARPEVILLE.- Vaal came to a standstill when the country commemorated the ‘Sharpeville Shooting’ on Human Rights Day on Thursday.
Sharpeville was a place to be with the who is who in politics joining millions of South Africans to commemorate this day to remember the 69 people whom the government killed for protesting against pass law (dompas).

Sharpeville streets were painted with all the political parties’ colours marching the streets to Phelandaba’s grave site and Sharpeville Memorial Site with the main event taking place at George Thabe Stadium where President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the crowd.
The interesting part was when Pan African Congress (PAC), Action SA, BOSA, and ACT leaders shared the stage and addressed their supporters at the event held at Dlomo Dam not far from where EFF hosted their commemoration. This was before they bulldozed their way into the Sharpeville Memorial Site pushing security personnel at the gate for entrance.
Mmusi Maimane represented BOSA while Ace Magashule, PAC represented ACT, PAC was represented under the leadership of Mzwanele Nyhontso, and Herman Mashaba represented Action SA.

The above-mentioned parties set the tone for the upcoming elections on May 29. In one voice they said that believed it was high time South African people made conscious decisions when they vote.
Meanwhile, EFF hosted their commemoration at Dlomo Dam with the party leader Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi addressing their supporters in the absence of the party president Julius Malema who had attended another rally.
