SEDIBENG – SAPS will host its annual Commemoration Day at the Union Buildings on September 1, to honour and pay tribute to women and men in blue who died in the line of duty between April 2023 and March 2024. SAPS will honour 39 members who died during this period.
Among those fallen heroes is the late Constable Karabo Bernet Mohase who died on May 11, 2023. Mohase was 27 years old when he passed and was part of the Vaal Marina Police Station in the Sedibeng District Cluster. In a statement, national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said that Mohase had five years of service at the time of his passing.
“On May 11, 2023, the member and his colleagues were deployed to conduct a stop and search operation along the R51 road near Balfour. The member was killed when he was hit by a truck, which was driving at a high speed on a downhill stretch and was declared dead at the scene,” she said.
Mohase leaves behind his wife and two children. In honour of Mohase and 38 other fallen heroes in blue, their names will be engraved on the SAPS’ memorial wall as a symbol of gratitude from the nation for the sacrifices they made in serving and protecting the people of this country.
