Vandalised testing centre repairs to commence soon

DA MPL Kingsol Chabalala says that the announcement is a little too late.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has announced the allocation of a budget geared towards repairing the vandalised Driving Licensing Testing Centre (DLTC) in Sebokeng.

The department revealed that the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) has been appointed as the implementing agent to complete the project.
“The PSP for this project will be appointed through the Department of Roads and Transport Panel of Consultants.”

The announcement has received mixed feelings from community members who have expressed various views on social media. Some have expressed excitement at the much-awaited project, while some fear the failure of yet another project.

DA MPL Kingsol Chabalala says that the announcement is a little too late.

“The fact that R87m was spent only for Emfuleni residents to get an incomplete, vandalised DLTC is shocking. Those responsible for not monitoring this project and for failing to ensure that this project was delivered on time and within budget should be held accountable.

“The fact that additional millions that could have been geared towards other projects will be spent on the competition of this DLTC is sad. We will continue to fight and ensure the completion of this project and further ensure that Emfuleni residents benefit from it.”

The Department said the site handover is scheduled for June 2025, adding that practical completion is expected in February 2027.
