From the streets of Sharpeville to executive boardrooms

NWU stated that his foundation was built on his parents' unwavering belief in education. This conviction saw all five children rise out of poverty to earn university degrees.

VANDERBIJLPARK – At 35, Molefi Seshabela’s journey from Sharpeville to the executive boardrooms of South Africa’s financial sector is a testament to grit and an unrelenting will to succeed.

Today, the North-West University alumnus serves as Head of Secured Credit at Old Mutual while pursuing a PhD in risk analysis. But his rise to leadership was far from seamless.

Facing academic exclusion after failing his third year, Molefi refused to accept defeat.

He fought for a second chance, returned to his studies with renewed focus, and went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Now, Molefi pays it forward by mentoring young professionals and tutoring matric students in mathematics and science, living out the motto that guides him:

“Where you come from must never determine where you are going.”
