Violent panga attack in Meyerton leaves two injured

One of the injured persons was rushed to Vereeniging Kopanong Hospital with serious injuries.

MEYERTON – A coordinated emergency response unfolded near the corner of Donald Road and Jim Fouché Street in Meyerton on Sunday, 18 May 2025, after two men were attacked with a panga.

It is understood that one of the injured men ran towards a nearby pub to seek help following the attack. He reportedly sustained serious injuries and was later transported by ambulance to Vereeniging Kopanong Hospital.

According to a statement issued by Frontline of Hope Ministry, whose Trauma Support Mediators were among the first to arrive on the scene, two first-aid trained members began stabilising the victims, while others assisted various role players present.

The second victim declined medical treatment.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) members played a key role in securing the scene and providing support to arriving emergency personnel. CERT medics provided professional medical care, followed by the arrival of a state ambulance. A Meyerton SAPS reservist was also on scene to assist.

Frontline of Hope commended the collaborative effort between multiple organisations, including CERT, the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), Afriforum, Riversdale CPF, Sector 2 CPF, 101 Assist, and CB EMS.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and it is understood that the victims have not opened a case with the Meyerton Police.
