109 arrested in Sebokeng operation
The operation was led by the Acting District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, and supported by various crime-combatting stakeholders.
SEBOKENG.– A high-impact, crime-combatting initiative, Operation Shanela, led to the arrest of more than 100 suspects over the weekend, with a focused operation taking place in the Sebokeng Policing precinct on Saturday.
The operation was led by the Acting District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, and supported by various crime-combatting stakeholders as follows:
– SAPS (Various stations and SAPS Units)
– Department of Community Safety
– Ward Councillor
– Gauteng Traffic
– Emfuleni Traffic
– Department of Home Affairs
– CPF
– Gauteng Traffic Wardens
– Siyabangena Patrollers
According to the police, detectives across the Sedibeng District conducted pre-operation investigations and secured 73 arrests ahead of the operation. These included suspects linked to gender-based violence and other serious crimes. On the day of the operation, a further 36 individuals were apprehended for a variety of offenses, including house robbery, rape, kidnapping, and theft.
Six suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, while dangerous weapons were also confiscated during joint patrols, particularly in collaboration with community patrollers from Zone 24. Traffic law enforcement also formed a key part of the operation, whereby Officers issued (25) AARTO infringement notices for various road traffic violations.
The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, extended her appreciation to all involved stakeholders, SAPS members, and the community for their professionalism and commitment to restoring safety.
