Shoppers treated to a special sight as SAPS officers patrol on horses

As part of the initiative, participating mall tenants will offer each patrolling SAPS officer one complimentary coffee per day.

MEYERTON – Shoppers at Riverstone Mall were treated to a unique sight recently as Warrant Officer van der Westhuizen on his horse, Midnight Velvet, and Sergeant Odendaal on Panache made their first official patrol through the mall precinct. Their presence signals the launch of a heartwarming initiative aimed at recognising the dedication of SAPS officers in keeping the community safe.
As part of the initiative, participating mall tenants will offer each patrolling SAPS officer one complimentary coffee per day. The gesture is designed to show appreciation for the officers’ tireless work in protecting shoppers, staff, and businesses, while encouraging greater visibility of policing efforts within the mall. The initiative kicked off with Panarottis proudly serving the first coffees, and Del Forno also joined the effort, supporting the drive to acknowledge the vital role of law enforcement in the community. Mall management expressed gratitude to the tenants for their generosity and to SAPS for their continued commitment to safety. “This partnership is about more than just a cup of coffee. It’s about building relationships, showing appreciation, and creating a safer and more welcoming space for everyone,” said Cherisa Bruwer, a spokesperson for the mall. Riverstone Mall encourages shoppers to support the initiative and join in expressing thanks to SAPS officers for their hard work.
With regular patrols now taking place in and around the centre, this small gesture is a reminder that safety, community, and collaboration go hand in hand.
