Ransom takes Midvaal Triathlon SA long-distance title

Chris Ransom clinched the SA long-distance title at Bass Lake.

HENLEY-ON-KLIP – Chris Ransom claimed victory at the inaugural Midvaal Triathlon on Sunday morning, winning the SA Long Distance Championships title at Bass Lake Henley-on-Klip in a time of 04:00:03.

Pieterjan van der Merwe, who led early after being the fastest swimmer out of Bass Lake, finished second in 04:02:27, followed by Adrian Myburgh in 04:06:12.

In the women’s race, Judy Gouws was the first female finisher in 04:46:03, with Elene Lourens-Botha second in 04:56:52 and Magdalena Shlesinger third in 05:04:39.

The long-distance championship event comprised a 2km swim, 80km cycle and 20km run, while a shorter triathlon (1km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run) and corporate relay events were also contested.

The bike leg gave eventual winner Ransom a clear advantage heading into the run.
