Vaal Marina launches AI-driven Safe City initiative

The new “Safe City” system in Vaal Marina uses artificial intelligence analytics and cameras to monitor public spaces and residential areas in real time.

VAAL MARINA –Residents and local businesses are now under the constant watchful eyes of a new technology-driven safety network.

The Vaal Marina Safe City was officially launched on April 4.

It uses a network of cameras across Vaal Marina and AI monitoring to keep a constant eye on streets, homes, and public spaces.

Two surveillance operators man the control centre during the day and two at night.

They monitor several cameras installed in public spaces across Vaal Marina.

The control centre runs on AxxonSoft technology, already in use in over officials demonstrated how alerts are triggered when humans or vehicles enter predefined areas at specific 180 cities worldwide.

The system uses AI analytics, geo-mapped monitoring, and realtime alerts to spot potential security threats and allow operators to respond before incidents escalate.

According to Colleen Glaeser, Managing Director of Southern Africa & SADC at AxxonSoft, this system is about staying ahead of potential problems, not just reacting to them.

Whereas conventional CCTV requires operators to review footage after an incident occurs, the Vaal Marina Safe City system uses AI analytics and pre-defined alerts to detect unusual activity in real time, thus allowing operators to respond proactively.

On March 31, during a demonstration for key stakeholders, times.

Operators can then respond immediately, co-ordinating with armed response units and integrating information from cameras located in the streets and participating homes.

“This is not just about cameras — it is about creating a connected, intelligent safety infrastructure that actively protects communities,” said Glaeser.

The initiative also included a special offer: the first 150 residents who signed up for the Safe City monitoring package received a free home camera installation, with ongoing monitoring and maintenance integrated into the broader network.
