DA calls for job creation, economic growth on Workers’s Day
With unemployment remaining high, the party says the focus must shift from rhetoric to real opportunities.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Emfuleni Central Constituency marked Workers’ Day on 1 May with a call for urgent job creation and economic growth.
The DA’s political head for the Emfuleni Central Constituency, Dady Mollo, said in a statement issued on Workers’ Day: “Workers’ Day cannot only be a celebration, it must also be a reminder of the millions of South Africans who are still without jobs.”
“Workers’ Day must also serve as a stark reminder of the millions of unemployed South Africans who remain excluded from the opportunity to earn a living and provide for their families,” Mollo added.
According to Mollo true freedom is not only the right to vote, but the ability to access meaningful work, acquire skills, and participate in a growing economy.
“It is unacceptable that unemployment remains so high while many communities continue to face deepening poverty, failing service delivery, and limited economic opportunities,” he said.
Mollo says the best way to protect workers is through job creation.
“This can be achieved by growing the economy, supporting small businesses, attracting investment, and ensuring that municipalities deliver reliable services that enable businesses to thrive,” he added.
Mollo says workers deserve fair opportunities, safe working conditions, and a government that prioritises job creation.
“Equally, the unemployed deserve real hope and sustainable solutions — not empty promises. This Workers’ Day, we recommit ourselves to building a South Africa where everyone who wants to work has the opportunity to do so,” he concluded.
