Midvaal on alert ahead of 30 June shutdown rumours
Security cluster is on high alert as authorities monitor circulating reports of a proposed national shutdown on 30 June.
MEYERTON – The Midvaal Local Municipality says it is aware and is monitoring information about a proposed national shutdown on 30 June.
“At this stage, the Municipality has not received any formal applications for protests, marches, or related public gatherings within Midvaal,” the municipality said in a statement.
In a public notice issued on 29 June 2026, the municipality confirmed it is aware of information circulating on various platforms regarding the proposed shutdown, but said no official applications for public gatherings have been received.
The municipality said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in continuous engagement with relevant stakeholders as part of its precautionary response.
It added that the South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forums (CPFs), and the broader security cluster will maintain a visible presence across the municipality to help ensure safety, stability, and law and order.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
The municipality said it will continue to provide updates should any developments arise and will keep residents informed throughout the period.
