Night of a Thousand Masks brings theatrical spectacle to Henley

Behind every mask lies a story waiting to be told.

HENLEY ON KLIP – An exciting new theatrical production combining live music, dance, aerial performance and theatre will take to the stage at The Realm in Henley on Klip on 29 and 30 August.

Night of a Thousand Masks was conceived by local music director and performer Dihan Schoeman.

According to Schoeman is started off as an idea for an intimate dinner-and-show featuring a single vocalist grew.

It then grew into a full-scale theatrical production showcasing a range of local talent.
Schoeman, who holds a Diploma in Music Technology and has performed in musical productions across the country, said the production provided an opportunity to bring his experience back to the Vaal while creating a professional platform for local performers.

The production also has a charitable purpose, with the evening supporting frail care and the wellbeing of elderly people.

Dihan Schoeman, the master brain behind the theatrical production, says it started off as an idea for an intimate dinner-and-show featuring a single vocalist grew, but quickly grew into a full-scale theatrical production showcasing a range of local talent.

At the heart of the show is the metaphorical mask people wear in their everyday lives, hiding parts of themselves or adapting to make others comfortable.

Schoeman says the production explores what lies behind these masks and asks audiences to consider why people hide their true selves.

The theme will extend to the audience, who are encouraged to wear their own masks, with a prize for the best one.

The show will feature familiar music ranging from the 1980s to the present, incorporating musical theatre and rock, alongside energetic choreography and striking stage visuals.

Night of a Thousand Masks promises to combine live music, dance, aerial performance and theatre.

Among the performers are Schoeman, Casey Maistry, Josh Maistry, Tayo Adedotun, Mathys Olwagen and Aiden Boyce, with Zenzi Silla as MC. Meyerton saxophonist Mike the Saxophonist, Lunae Lane’s Brandon Mark and aerialist Kayla Campbell will also feature.

Eight dancers from Dance It in Glen Vista will join performers from Meyerton and Henley.

The Realm’s pool lounge will be transformed into a theatre, complete with a purpose-built stage and professional sound and lighting.

Schoeman hopes audiences will leave entertained but also reminded of the importance of supporting the elderly and nurturing the Vaal’s wealth of local talent.

Night of a Thousand Masks takes place on 29 and 30 August at The Realm in Henley on Klip. Tickets are available through Quicket.
