Rise in motor vehicle accidents on provincial roads

The R547, R545, and R544 in Ga-Nala are not in a good state for motorists to use.

Almost 20 vehicles and trucks have been involved in motor vehicle accidents on provincial roads, namely the R547, R545, and R544.

The majority of these accidents are said to be caused by the disastrous state of these roads.

The notorious R547 has claimed lives and left victims with serious injuries and cars in devastating conditions.

On the R545 (Ogies/Bethal Road) near Klipportjie, an orange Volkswagen Polo overturned and rolled numerous times on Froday, January 26

Ga-Nala Ward Councillor Sipho Maseko expressed his concern over the growing number of motor vehicle accidents in the area, “Majority of these accidents occur on provincial roads.

The main road on the R545 is narrow, filled with potholes, and overall not in a good condition for road users to drive on,” Maseko shared.

Mr Percival Motloung from Percival Emergency Medical Services (PEMS) said that on Saturday, February 3, eight victims survived a head-on collision between two trucks on the R547, and no fatalities were reported in the motor vehicle accident that occurred near the King Fischer four-way stop.

One dead, two injured after head-on collision between a minibus tax and a bakkie reportedly took place between Ga-Nala and Thubelihle on Saturday, January 13.

On Sunday, January 28, a total of three motor vehicle accidents were reported in Ga-Nala, R545, and R547.

“The collision was between a Toyota Quantum and a Mazda hatchback. On scene, there were in total of 10 victims who sustained injuries, one from the Mazda, eight from the taxi, and one pedestrian.

Injuries were minor to moderate,” Motloung informed.
