Solar battery snatchers

Thieves nowadays want solar batteries.

Do you have solar panels?

That means you have a battery.

A new type of crime has reared its ugly head in eMalahleni – theft of solar system batteries.

SACCW is warning citizens that a very well-organised gang is making its rounds around town and targeting batteries.

They are equipped and serious about stealing the usually very expensive batteries that are used for storing solar energy.

Residents are urged to ensure batteries are kept in a safe and locked area.

These battery burglars will do anything to gain access to your solar system to take the batteries.

One of the bakkies allegedly being used in the crimes.

Communities are asked to report any suspicious activity or individuals to SAPS, their local CPF or their security company.

It is also suggested that if possible, an alarm system is added to your solar system as well and to ensure it is connected to an armed response service.

The suspects were caught on CCTV at one of the crime scenes and appear to be using a white Ford Bantam bakkie as a getaway vehicle.

“Please we urge the community to keep your batteries and solar systems as safe as possible. These guys are well prepared and serious about stealing your batteries,” said SACCW member Frik van Dyk.
