Tensions ran high outside the Witbank Magistrate’s Court as the murder case of 26-year-old Ziyanda Mkhomazi was postponed, with her remanded in custody.
She appeared before the court on Tuesday, May 14, facing a murder charge in connection with the death of 37-year-old Lungile Khumalo.
Outside the court, family and community members gathered, holding banners demanding that Mkhomazi be denied bail, insisting she deserves to remain in jail.
The case was postponed in February for further investigations after Mkhomazi abandoned her bail application.
This comes after a scuffle between the two resulted in Mkhomazi allegedly stabbing Khumalo in the upper body in February.
Despite being rushed to the hospital by a family member, Khumalo succumbed to his injuries later.
Following thorough investigations, Mkhomazi was traced and arrested.
She is expected to appear in court again today (Thursday, May 23).
The deceased mother Thokozile Khumalo, said, “We are coming back next week again and I want Mkhomazi not to get bail and I want to see justice being served for my son.”
