Robberies see significant rise during festive season

Witbank Police reported two separate robberies in one day on Thursday, November 28.

eMalahleni has seen a significant rise in house and armed robberies as we dive into the festive season.

Residents are urged to take extra precautionary measures at home and when traveling.

According to Witbank Police, two separate robberies were recorded in one day.

In Duvha Park, a mother was left traumatised after three men allegedly invaded her home and assaulted her daughter with a firearm.

According to the report, on Thursday, November 28, the mother and daughter were at home in Lomami Street when the men barged into their home and threatened them to open the door. When the daughter refused, it is alleged that the men kicked the door open and assaulted the young woman with a firearm.

It is alleged that as one of the men held the mother and daughter hostage, the other two men went into the mother’s bedroom, flipped the mattress over, and stole an undisclosed amount of money. At around 21:30 it is alleged that the suspects also stole two cellphones before they fled the scene.

In Model Park, a woman was robbed shortly after withdrawing a large sum of money at a shopping center.

According to the report, at around 11:30, she went to the bank, withdrew a sum of money, and drove straight home.

When she arrived home in Revune Street at 11:40, she was allegedly welcomed by two armed men who threatened her with a firearm. It is alleged that the men grabbed her handbag with the money and drove off in a white vehicle.
