Young artist finds the missing piece for his drawing career

Sizwe Mathabela has found himself a mentor who will give him professional guidance in his drawing career.

Sizwe Mathabela, a resilient artist from Thanduxolo Special School, has reached a breakthrough in his drawing career, weeks after crying out for help.

After the 17-year-old shared his golden drawing talent and his plea for professional guidance late in January, Remember Makgoga, known as Chinacity, has stepped in to assist.

In his journey, Remember has drawn incredible portraits of several celebrities, and not only that, but he has also honoured the Emalahleni Local Municipality Mayor, Vusi Nhlapho, with his talent.

Having mentored other aspiring artists before, the 35-year-old shared that his decision to take Sizwe under his wing was inspired by the raw talent he saw in him.

“When it comes to Sizwe’s drawings, I saw potential and passion from the first day we met,” Remember said.

The duo has agreed to meet during the young artist’s school days off as his new mentor stressed the importance of education.

“My goal is to upgrade his skills when it comes to drawing so that he can keep getting better and better,” Remember said.

With the support of his teacher, Simphiwe Sithole, who has been assisting him since he discovered his talent, and now the mentorship of Remember, Sizwe said he is excited that his truest potential will now be unleashed.

The young artist said he started drawing in 2018 after his father passed away, and despite the discouragements he used to get from people, he still kept going.

“Deep down, I always tell myself that I will reach the level I want to reach,” Sizwe said.
