Teen killed during alleged Siyanqoba looting incident last night

A 19-year-old man has been shot dead during an alleged looting incident in Siyanqoba.


According to the Witbank police spokesperson, Warrant Officer David Ratau, a murder case has been opened following the shooting, which occurred at approximately 00:12.


It is alleged that on July 8 members of the Siyanqoba community were looting a shop owned by an Ethiopian national when a maroon or red Hyundai i10 drove past the scene.


The occupants of the vehicle allegedly fired several shots randomly into the crowd, causing people to scatter.

A witness who was standing near a tavern reportedly noticed a man lying on the ground holding a loaf of bread.

Emergency medical personnel attended the scene and declared the man deceased.


Police have not yet identified any suspects, and investigations are continuing.
