Ward 7 community unites to rebuild family shack destroyed by fire

Kopano Mojele said that although they are currently rebuilding the shack, they are short of some materials.

Ubuntu prevails as community members and organisations from Ward 7 in Emalahleni step up and come together to help a family in Emsagweni after their shack burned down.

After the unfortunate incident that occurred on March 14, in which a two-roomed shack burned to ashes, leaving a family miserable, the community felt the need to help.

“We couldn’t just stand and watch, as the Thumathina Mzansi, K Mother of Nations, Amabutho, and the community at large, we came together and thought of a way to help,” said Kopano Mojele, from Thumathina Mzansi.

Though the fire destroyed the family’s valuables, such as clothes, furniture, and, worse, the kids’ school uniforms, the owner of the shack, Busisiwe Mnguni, thanked God that no one was harmed.

“No one was in the shack when the incident transpired because we also have a family RDP house in the yard, but we still lost so much,” Mnguni said.

According to Mojele, as a community, they have been working to help rebuild the shack; however, they are currently short of corrugated roofing sheets and some materials, as the old ones were destroyed in the fire.

“We also tried to get the community to donate some clothes just so that they could have something to wear,” he said.

The family said they still need all the help they can get, but what currently takes top priority is finishing the house so that the family can move back in.

“We really urge organisations in Emalahleni and beyond to come forward and stand with us in helping the family,” Mojele said.
