eMalahleni’s seven-day water shutdown ends

The shutdown was done to carrying out essential maintenance on the Point D Command Reservoir, the Water Treatment Plant, Point C, and the dam.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality has confirmed the completion of its scheduled seven-day water system shutdown, with water supply now restored to most areas across the town.

The shutdown, which began on June 29 and concluded on July 5, was aimed at carrying out essential maintenance on the Point D Command Reservoir, the Water Treatment Plant, Point C, and the dam.

These works were described as critical to ensuring long-term water stability and reliability for residents.

According to the municipality’s latest statement, issued on July 8, the majority of the municipal network has been successfully recharged.

However, some areas, particularly those at the upper end of the distribution system, continue to experience low pressure or intermittent supply as the system stabilises.

Municipal teams identified several pipe bursts and leaks during the recovery phase.

However, they confirmed that these faults are currently being repaired, with technical crews deployed across affected sites to restore normal operation as soon as possible.

“While the number of repairs is currently significant, every effort is being made to repair the faults and restore the system to normal operation,” the municipality stated in its update.

The municipality acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage, but emphasised that the maintenance was necessary to secure the long-term sustainability of eMalahleni’s water infrastructure.
