Mahlangu sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing girlfriend 24 times

A life sentence was handed down for a brutal 24-stab attack.

Mthokozisi Mahlangu has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of attempted murder for stabbing his girlfriend, Dudu Dhludhlu, 24 times.

The sentence follows a violent attack that left the 24-year-old with serious physical and emotional scars.

According to Dhludhlu, the attack happened on August 31 last year after an argument escalated into violence. She said Mahlangu questioned whether the child she was carrying was his before stabbing her multiple times.

Dhludhlu spent five days in hospital receiving treatment for her injuries and said she continues to deal with the effects of the attack.

All Voices Matter welcomed the ruling as a victory for survivors and justice.

Activist Abongile Mcoki from the organisation said, “When we work together, we get results. This ruling gives hope to all GBV survivors; our laws do work.”

Mcoki thanked those involved in the case, including social services, the presiding officer, prosecutors and the investigating officer from the Vosman Police Station, for their efforts.
