Heinrich pushes the limits for baby rhinos

In most golf correlated conversations the name Heinrich du Preez will pop up.

Besides the 28 golf related world records, including 15 Guinness World records this amateur golfer holds, he is renown for the outrageous things he does in the name of this gentleman’s sport.

From July 19 to 27 he is trading his golf cart for a Holland T5 Tractor.
“My aim would be to play a round of golf in all nine of the country’s provinces in just nine days. So, where’s the catch? We’re doing it in a tractor,” Heinrich said.

The top speed of this machine is the same as a standard golf cart, 35km/h.

“It should be tough enough to travel the 2 000km in just nine days and squeeze in nine complete rounds of golf whilst doing it.”

Heinrich is not just doing it because it has never been done before. The reason behind this epic road trip is to raise funds for the world’s only rhino orphanage. This facility looks after baby rhinos whose mothers have been killed by poachers.

The Rhino Orphanage is the first specialist, dedicated, non-commercial centre to care for baby rhinos orphaned by the shocking trade in poached rhino horns. It is situated in the Wildlife and Cultural Centre at Legend Golf and Safari Resort in Limpopo Province.

Heinrich will tee-off in the Western Cape on the lush green course of Beaufort West Golf Club.

His second stop will be Richmond Golf Club in the Northern Cape. From there he will travel to Middelburg Golf Club in the Eastern Cape, Clarens Golf Club in the Free State, Ladysmith Golf Club in KwaZulu Natal, Graceland Casino and Golf Resort in Mpumalanga, Woodhill Golf Club in Gauteng, Seasons Eco Golf Club in North West and he will play his last round of golf at Legends Golf Resort in Limpopo.

“Travelling at a speed of 35km/h the going will be very tough, since we have to travel way into the night and get up very early on most days. Our total hours spent on the road will amount to close to 100 during the nine days.”

One would think after all that golf, Heinrich would take a few days of to relax, but that is the last thing on his mind. On July 29 he will be hosting a golf day to raise additional funds for the Rhino Orphanage. This golf day will take place at the Woodhill Golf Estate in Pretoria.
During this golf day we will hand over an anti poaching vehicle that will be used in protecting these beautiful animals.

Heinrich has a rich history in eMalahleni. He was born here in the City of Coal and attended Hoërskool Reynopark.

Through his record attempts he has managed to raise large amounts of money and awareness for very worthy causes like the Rhino Orphanage.
