Young local biker hits the roof

Zululand biker competed as the youngest entrant in the Roof Of Africa this year.

YOUNG Zululander, Calvin Hume competed as the youngest entrant in the Roof Of Africa race in Lesotho this year, placing 16th overall in the Silver class.

An international event on the extreme enduro calendar and one of the hardest races on the enduro circuit, the race attracted teams from across the world.

The riders raced in hot and dry conditions weathering temperatures of more than 35 degrees Celsius, with the average racers spending seven to eight hours a day on their bikes to cover a total of 322 kilometres.

Calvin rode Roof Of Africa with the KTM team from CC Gallery Gateway, and also raced in the KZN Regional X-country series placing second overall for the championship.

Adding to his highlights for the year, he also completed the IMPI two-day extreme enduro held in the Dundee area, placing 12th in the Gold class despite again being youngest rider to race in the class.

Having achieved great results this year, Calvin is looking forward to continued success over the 2016 racing season.
