No nonsense in huge Friday night traffic blitz

Over 100 individuals were detained for drunk driving in city

IN a massive traffic blitz on Friday evening, no fewer than 113 drunk drivers were nailed in the city – including a taxi driver who was 16 times over the blood alcohol limit for his professional driver’s permit.

A media release from the KZN Department of Transport this (Saturday) morning said raids began around 6pm and continued into the early hours, with KZN Department of Health professionals utilised for blood test management.

A firearm was confiscated during the operation

The breakdown of arrests by the ‘No Nonsense’ Road Traffic Inspectorate Team was: Richards Bay 54, Empangeni 28 and eSikhaleni 31.

Among them was an engineer who tested six times over the limit, and a driver found in possession of a firearm.

In addition, a Nigerian national was caught in possession of drugs.

Saps under the leadership of Provincial Commissioner Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi was assisted by the Richards Bay CPF.
