Woman drugged, kidnapped and raped after getting on taxi in Sharpeville
The woman realised that the taxi was not heading to the destination she intended, after which she was drugged.
The police in Sharpeville have launched a rape and kidnapping case docket after a woman from Tshepiso was kidnapped, drugged and raped by three men after getting onto a taxi.
The incident happened on Saturday morning. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the victim said she was on her way to Vereeniging.
“When I stopped the taxi, there were two women at the back and the driver along with another man were seated in the front. On the way, I saw that the taxi was not headed to Vereeniging.
“I alerted the driver that I was going to Vereeniging. Instead, one of the women offered me something to drink. I refused it and then the other woman took a cloth and put it over my nose. I suspect that they drugged me because after that, I did not see where the taxi headed.”
The woman stated that three men took turns raping her later that day. “I woke up the following day in a small shack in the middle of nowhere. The shack was very small and very dark inside. I walked through the bush and eventually saw a tar road after walking for a long time.
“I stopped a car with a woman and her partner inside. I asked them where I was and they said Potchefstroom. I asked them to please take me to the nearest taxi rank and on my arrival there, I called my husband to come and fetch me.”
The woman’s partner said that he was grateful for the woman’s life, adding that he was doing all he could to support her. “I have taken time off to make sure that she is ok. She is still very shaken by the ordeal.”
Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango confirmed that a case was opened and under investigation. Sango has since urged members of the community to be vigilant.
Last week, Sedibeng Ster reported that a woman had also been assaulted and robbed after getting in a taxi in Tshepiso.
