EMPD spread awareness about abuse and road safety

Tsakani – Members of the EMPD did a gender-based violence (GBV) presentation at the Zamokuhle Disability Community Development Centre on Wednesday.
EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said many people with disabilities are hidden behind closed doors because of their conditions.
“Many disabled people are abused by their family members. Through this awareness, we intended to make them mindful that they can report any form of abuse toward them, be it harassment, physical or mental.
“We urge those who are abused in any form to report their cases to the police to ensure the perpetrators are arrested,” she said.
The officers also took the road safety campaign to daycare centres in the area.
“As part of ongoing operations aimed at educating scholars on road safety and diverse social ills, officers engaged the little ones using strategies such as learning through play.
“Among the topics addressed were bullying, careers, how to report a crime and other wrongdoings, the actions of adults towards them, and not remaining silent in the event of abuse,” she added.
