Local designer takes on the fashion world
Alex Baza aims to become an international sensation in the fashion industry.
Tsakani – Tsakani fashion guru Alex Baza has set his sights on becoming an international sensation. The founder of the Material Oxford Movement found his stylish side when he was in Grade Nine and met his photographer, Mbuso Mahungela.
“When I started, I knew it would be hard, but I wanted to create a platform for young people in my neighbourhood and show them what was possible.
“I have so many ideas I am still trying to iron out for my fashion,” Baza said.
The 24-year-old explained that he uses his own clothes or anything he finds beautiful to style people and recently styled 11 models for the Alex Baza Private Runway Fashion S1E1.2023 Concept: Jesus Disciples.

“I use almost everything to create fashionable looks, from curtains to my mother’s clothes. I blend fashion with art and have been doing it for almost seven years,” said the artist.
Baza, inspired by everything around him, said fashion had no rules, so he could do whatever he wanted with material.
He is proud of what he has achieved and hopes to achieve more.
“I guess I am finally becoming the person I have always wanted to be. This is what not giving up and staying consistent in everything I do means,” said the artist.
Baza recently released a music video for one of his songs, Vision 2040.
