Man dies in fire that started in his bedroom

Forensic officials suspected the fire was started by a spark from a congested plug (switch) when restoring power to the area.

Kwa-Thema – In the early hours of June 16, Paseka Nkabinde died in a fire that had started in his bedroom.
The 35-year-old’s family heard him screaming and frantically calling for help.

His sister, Busisiwe Nkabinde, said they rushed to save him. However, because Nkabinde had locked the door, they battled to enter.

When they finally gained access, smoke clouded the room, and they could not see him.

“While trying to douse the fire, one resident saw his legs and pulled him outside.

“We called for an ambulance. Firefighters, the police and the forensic department came. He was declared dead at the scene,” she added.

Forensic officials at the scene suspected the fire was started by a spark from a congested plug (switch) when restoring power to the area.
