Kristo iNkosi Catholic Church celebrates the youth

The celebration also brought parents together to support their children.

Kwa-Thema – Kristo iNkosi Catholic Church in the Highlands section celebrated its youth as part of the Youth Day commemoration on Friday.

The church took a stance to celebrate the day annually by dedicating the month of June to the active involvement of the youth in the church.

The celebration also brought parents together to support their children.

Father Chaka Motanyane, the parish priest, highlighted the importance of the youth at church, citing that they are the future of the church and the country.

“We try by all means to empower our youth so that when our time is over, we know that our church is in good hands and the nation will have future leaders developed in this parish,” said Motanyane.

He added unlike previous generations, whose challenge was education, today’s youth confront many challenges, such as drug and alcohol abuse, peer pressure, and other socio-economic challenges.

“Social media sometimes plays a big role. They see and adapt things and think that is how life is, but when they discover it is not always the case, it becomes a problem. Family dynamics also play a part, and lead to many broken children.”

Motanyane emphasised the support parents need to render to their children, adding it is imperative to encourage them, especially in black communities.

“The presence of a parent is really important,” he said.

Festivities for the day included egg racing, tug of war, soccer clinics, netball and soccer matches, a jumping castle, colour powder games, music, and dance. Motanyane expressed his joy that the celebration, which had over 200 children, was a success.

“I am grateful to the parents who allowed their children to come because this is where the children form friendships.”

He thanked the parish for assisting to make the day a success.
