Choir turns up the heat
“We started as a school choir and, after that, decided to change the name and make it our own."
Kwa-Thema – The Infernos Gospel Choir, also known as The Fire Choir, is a gospel group from Kwa-Thema.
The choir was established in 2019 by Lebogang Sedise with only five members. It has since grown to 70 choristers.
Sedise told African Reporter that a mutual passion for music brought them together, and they were all team players with mutual respect and cooperation.
“We started singing in school and, after matric, decided to come together as a community choir. We decided to change the name and make it our own.

“We used the knowledge we gained over the years in the group to build and make it a success.
“Our musical style is pure, consisting of melodic a capella and some soft acoustics, that is our signature as a choir,” he said.
He added that members were artistic individuals, and their determination was the source for the songs they released.

The choir has many accomplishments – the release of an EP, first place in the Partiality Choir Competition and working on programmes that address socio-economic problems prevalent in communities.
Sedise was proud of those achievements but said there’s still more to expect.
“It was not that easy starting this choir. I would often find it difficult to conduct people older than me.
“Today it’s a different feeling because we all work together for the success of choir,” he said.
