Former Springs deputy mayor to receive a civic funeral

Auntie Nyathela served as a councilor in KwaThema/Springs from the early 1990s to the late 2000s and participated in the Infrastructure Portfolio Committee.

Kwatsaduza – The Ekurhuleni council has declared a civic funeral for the late former deputy mayor of Springs, Anna Noganiwe “Antie”Nyathela.

This was declared during the extraordinary council sitting at the OR Tambo Government Precinct on Thursday.

The urgent motion without notice in terms of rule 90 sub-section 1 of council standing orders was tabled by the chief whip of council, Jongizizwe Dlabathi.

As part of the policy, Nyathela’s memorial service and funeral service will be incurred by council. The council sitting was attended by family, friends and comrades who served with her.

Nyathela died on June 25 after a long illness.

She also served as a councillor in Kwa-Thema/Springs from the early 1990s to late 2000s and participated in the Infrastructure Portfolio Committee.

She is remembered as a community builder who championed for the rights of her community of Springs, Ekurhuleni and Gauteng at large.

The funeral service will be held at Kwa-Thema Community Hall on Saturday from 07:00 and the cortege will leave for the Enokuthula Cemetery at 11:00.
