Kwa-Thema – The DA in Kwa-Thema spent their Mandela Day painting Thembelihle Crèche and Pre-School on Tuesday.
Kwa-Thema PR councillor Precious Jacobs said they chose the daycare because it hadn’t received funding from the government for years.
“The centre caters for children from 18 months to Grade R, and painting it will make the young ones feel they are in a welcoming, warm place,” she said.
The organisation also donated books to the centre.
“With the state of our country, we need to teach children as young as we can to read. We need to encourage the young to read,” Jacobs said.
She said the book drive would go to all daycare centres in Kwa-Thema.
About Mandela Day, Jacobs said it was about giving back, and if people could give back, they should do so.
