Former learners donate to their school
“Katiso and his group did a beautiful thing for our learners and I could see it in their faces that they needed this.”
Duduza – NN Ndebele Secondary School learners received school uniforms donated by former learners on Tuesday.
This was part of their 67 minutes for Mandela Day. The former learners raised funds to donate 25 school jerseys and 25 pairs of socks to needy learners.
Speaking to African Reporter, the spokesperson for the class of 1987, Katiso Rantlha, said this was something they had always wanted to do.
“This idea came to light at our high school reunion. We appealed to others, particularly the matriculants of 1991, 1992, and 1993 to come together and celebrate the history of our school,” added Rantlha.

He said this also honoured fallen teachers and learners of the school.
According to him, this would be a chance for them to relive their high school years, establish new friendships, reinforce common values, and connect with the younger generation.
Teacher Themba Radebe said he was grateful for what the group had done for the needy learners.
“The gesture will go a long way and be marked in history. This community needs more people like them who never cease to give and continue to spread hope,” said Radebe.

He added that he hoped they did not stop doing this because it planted seeds of hope in others. Rantlha touched on the history of NN Ndebele, an arithmetic and isiZulu teacher in the 1950s.
“Njabulo Nimrod Ndebele was a well-known and accomplished teacher and a scholar of note in the early 1950s.
He taught arithmetic and isiZulu at Madibane High School in Diepkloof, Soweto. He was an extraordinary teacher during that era,” said Rantlha.
He said there was still more to do because Covid-19 had delayed most of their plans.
