Local organisation donates blankets to pensioners

The donation was part of the 67 Minutes for Mandela, an international initiative observed annually in celebration of the late statesman, Nelson Mandela.

Kwa-Thema – Hlasempho Community Development Projects donated blankets for Leratong Senior Citizen Elderly Choir based at Kwa-Thema Family Skills Centre on Monday.

This was part of the 67 Minutes for Mandela, an international initiative observed annually in celebration of the late statesman, Nelson Mandela.

The initiative was in collaboration with Kwa-Thema Police Station, Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), Women as Safety Promoters (WASP) and other stakeholders.

Executive director Martha Ntshona said the donation will help keep the pensioners warm as they prepare for their choral competitions.

During the event, they also promoted awareness about drug abuse and gender-based violence with the pensioners.

“It is important that they understand the topics as many of them live with grandchildren who are using drugs while others are abused,” she added.
