Champ pool player to represent Gauteng
“Pool is not a familiar sport, but I have always liked it and played with my friends to pass the time.”
Pool player Akhona Dyantyi, the reigning champ in singles competition, qualified for the upcoming South African Black Ball Pool National Championships.
The 38-year-old from Daveyton has played pool for almost two decades, and his skills have improved. He started playing the sport as a hobby, and now doors are open for him to compete in international tournaments.
Dyantyi said even though pool was not as popular as other sports, he was always passionate about it but didn’t think it would get him this far.
“Pool is not a familiar sport, but I have always liked it and played with my friends to pass the time. Now, it has reached a new level and I realise it can open doors for me,” said Dyantyi.

He said winning the tournament would bring him many opportunities because the victor got a chance to compete internationally.
“I was selected by South African Blackball Federation Gauteng to represent Gauteng in a seniors team in the upcoming South African Black Ball Pool National Championships in the Western Cape on September 2.
“This will be my first time competing on a national level. Should I win, I will represent SA in England early next year,” he added.
