Kwa-Thema model excited about new career path
“Participating in pageants means you're taking charge of your own life, and it always comes with building a strong character,”
Kwa-Thema – A person who models and utilises their physical appearance to promote a company’s product or to assist an artist in showcasing their artwork.
Twenty-year-old Andile Mbekezeli from Kwa-Thema has been doing that for a year now.
He told African Reporter that being a model is not only about walking on runways or wearing expensive brands.
“Being a model comes not only with the glitz and glamour, but it also comes with pledging yourself to serve your community, being a role model to the youth and the upcoming models.
“It is not only about the beauty but about how you think. As a model, inspire people as much as you also get your inspiration somewhere,” said Andile.
He continued to say in this career; shape and live your life through inspiration, be eager to learn new things and listen to those who know.
According to Andile, modelling is not about being arrogant and pleasing others. It is about staying true to yourself and serving your people.
“Nowadays we live in times where people let others dictate their lives by making them feel discouraged and small.
“Taking part in pageants means you are taking charge of your own life, and it always comes with building a strong character,” he added.
He mentioned participating in pageants taught him valuable skills such as leadership, effective communication, and unmatched confidence.
