The Alberton SPCA is standing with the SPCA branch in Germiston and Bedfordview after a break-in on July 12.
The RECORD spoke to the kennel manager from Germiston and Bedfordview SPCA, Abel Masemola, who confirmed the break-in.
“Our animals and staff on site were not harmed and are safe,” he said.
In dire need

“This has been the second incident of theft in months, and we have highlighted our desperate need for assistance with securing the property to ensure the safety of our animals and staff. We are appealing for donations towards security updates, broken windows and stolen items,” said Masemola.
“They stole two microwaves, an oven, food from the fridge, two laptops, a printer and two computers.”
Thankful
Masemola said they are grateful for all the assistance they have received so far.
“We are exceptionally grateful for the outpour of love, support and willingness of community members to want to assist our society. We are still taking stock of the damage and potential work required to sort out the unfortunate and heartbreaking doings of criminals,” he said.
For now, they have received enough donations of blankets and are in dire need of dog and cat food.
How you can help
Residents in the Alberton area can drop off donations at the Alberton SPCA.
According to the branch manager of Alberton SPCA, Charmain Southon, there will be a local drop-off to assist the Germiston SPCA during the difficult and devastating time.
“Any donations our community is willing to donate, such as food or money, will be sincerely appreciated,” said Southon.
“Due to the current circumstances, we would like to ask residents to phone the Alberton SPCA before bringing donations due to us closing at different times.”
Financial donations can be made to the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA FNB account with account number 511 1271 6150 and branch code 250655, or secure your donation via PayFast
According to Masemola, all donations are tax-deductible and a Section 18A Certificate is available upon request.
