Property valuation objection process on track

All property valuation objections have been resolved, except for 400 special properties, which will be finalised during this month.

At least over 47 000 objections were received on the 2021 to 2025 general valuation for properties in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The objection process is prescribed by the Municipal Property Rates Act and is handled as per sections 49 and 50 of the act.

According to City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, all objections have been resolved, except for 400 special properties, which will be finalised during this month.

He said of the 47 610 objections received, 4 270 were duplicates caused by multiple submissions of objections on one property.

“Property owners can expect objection outcome letters, valuer’s decisions, from the municipal valuer via email and post notifying objectors and or property owners in the next week. Once the outcome is received, property owners can appeal and the appeal period closes on March 4, 2022,” said Dlamini.

If any person has not received the objection outcome letter by January 20, 2022, they can visit the valuations section at Kempton Park Civic Centre for a re-print of the letter or be assisted with submission of appeal.

He also stressed that no appeal will be accepted via email, only hand-deliveries will be accepted at the valuations section.
