Community honours security officer killed in Mayfield Park ATM bombing

Slain security officer Bertie honoured with a memorial service in Mayfield Park.

Stephanus Albertus Klopper, known as Bertie, was a Fox Security officer killed in the line of duty while attending the crime scene of an ATM bombing in Mayfield Park on June 18.

A memorial was held for him on the same day when the community, his family and friends gathered at the Engen garage in Mayfield Park to honour Bertie’s memory.

He grew up in Kibler Park and has always been an active resident in his community.

Hennie Els, a member of the Kliprivierberg Civic Association, only had good things to say about Bertie.

“He may be gone, but will never be forgotten. A father, brother, friend and hero. Bertie’s memorial was a touching event that brought the community together to honour one of its fallen heroes.”
