No payment required by police to recover your vehicle – Sebenza SAPS warns
"The recovery and return of your vehicle is a free service provided by the police department."
Sebenza SAPS warned residents of a potential scam whereby payment is requested from community members when their vehicles are recovered by the police.
The police station reminded the community that no payment or fees are required if your vehicle is recovered by the police.
According to Sebenza Police Station’s communication officer Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso, reports recently came to light of persons claiming that payment is needed to release recovered vehicles.

“This is not the case,” emphasised Tsotsotso.

“The recovery and return of your vehicle is a free service provided by the police department.”
Tsotsotso explained that if a community member’s vehicle is found or recovered by the police, they will be contacted directly by the investigating officer.
“There is no charge for police recovery,” reiterated Tsotsotso
She said the police have and make use of their own towing services to tow the recovered vehicles to the nearest SAPS vehicle impound lot.
