Morningside youth sets sights on global pageant

It’s a bag of mixed feelings for one Morningside teen after she made it to the top 31 in the country in a global beauty pageant, paving her way to the finals in June.

STUDENT, entrepreneur, creative and pageant finalist, Nandi Zureida Magwaza, 19, of Morningside, is proof that achieving one’s goals is  within reach.

Besides being a finalist in the Miss Grand SA 2025, she is  studying human resources at Stellenbosch University. Her passion for business is the driving force behind her small hair and beauty business, which she runs while hitting the books.

She is an alumnus of Durban Girls College. During her 12 years at the college she held an array of leadership positions, including head girl, SRC leader and vice-head of African drumming. These traits honed her public speaking skills while solidifying her confidence attributes.

“My grandest dream is a beautiful blend of vision, purpose and responsibility. I see potential to equip and inspire young women, helping them navigate and excel in every sphere. It’s about touching lives, changing futures and building a movement that transcends traditional businesses. Beyond that, I aim to leverage my business beyond empowering women of colour in the beauty industry. It’s about breaking invisible barriers – a silent war tormenting society. I feel a driving force behind my work in propelling me to use my talents and platform to create a better future for all,” Magwaza shared.

She describes herself as someone who loves all things beauty, fashion, hair and make-up. And she is very much obsessed with the colour pink.

The 10th Miss Grand SA will be held in Gauteng on June 28. The winner will represent the country in the parent pageant, Miss Grand International in October.
