Beachfront retirement home’s arts exhibition a wonder
Edenroc Retirement Homes was nothing short of colour and creative talent, when it showcased the residents' works of art at a recent exhibition. Visitors and other residents were treated to exquisite aesthetics of paintings, tapestry, woolware, writings and more.

RESIDENTS at one retirement home have tapped into their creative spirits and showcased some of their best creations during a week-long exhibition.
One of Edenroc Retirement Home’s resident and director, Dr Yvonne Dyason (85), was at the helm of the colourful exhibition. At her age, she still practises at a private hospital in Durban as a homoeopathy specialist, juggling her work with astronomy-astrology, painting and creative writing.
“This is our very first exhibition, and we hope to bring another one in six months. I have been amazed by the talent of the residents. The exhibition was dubbed ‘Getting To Know You’, because we felt we had to know one another, the old and the new residents. And the talent shown was beyond our expectations.
“It was a wow feeling to see residents’ stories told through the arts. Visitors and other residents took their time and marvelled at the creations. We were pleased with this project, it served its purpose of enlightenment and profound engagement with one another,” added Dyason.

She always had an enquiring mind, seeking what more the mind and body can do while on earth.
“I have never followed the herd and for this reason I have a different slant on everything I undertake. I always need to know how and why others would tackle a situation, and then I proceed to tweak or alter the concept to get the relevant answers that I feel comfortable with, although I have always followed the rules. One may equate my life to the song I did it my way.”
She was born in Brakpan and moved to Durban in her pre-teens. She has lived in the then three provinces: The Transvaal, Cape Province and finally Natal Province (now KwaZulu-Natal).

“Having an enquiring mind and needing to know the meaning of life, what the purpose is and question why are we here? I have travelled extensively and lectured on many subjects around the world. I have studied in depth: art, music, traded futures stock market with Cosmo biological trend-lines. I’ve studied various concepts of medicine together with pharmacology, homoeopathy, isotherapy with the antigen / antibody relationship,” said the mother of two and grandmother who also specialises in relationship counselling.
She is a ball of positivity and believes in living life to the fullest.
On the exhibition were paintings, knitted and crocheted items, drawings, photos, published books and writings, miniature ornaments and more.
