Watch: Protesters demand action from justice system
March and March members united with Operation Dudula, political parties and other civic organisations in a protest in Durban this morning where they called on the law to act against illegal immigrants.
A HEAVY police battalion accompanied March and March members this morning as they marched from Gugu Dlamini Park, The Workshop, to the Durban Magistrate’s Court where they handed over their memorandum of demands to members of the National Prosecution Authority, SAPS and members of Department of Home Affairs.
Led by March and March leader, Jacinta Ngobese Zuma, the demonstration was also attended by members of Operation Dudula as well as political parties ActionSA, NFP, IFP, and Patriotic Alliance. Fresh from her last show on Vuma FM, Ngobese Zuma, whose contract was terminated on July 31 by the Durban broadcaster, said the civic organisation will not be silenced by those condemning the movement while labelling it as “a vigilante group”.

Since the start of July, members of March and March have been standing outside Addington Hospital, checking the identity document of people entering the government healthcare facility. Foreign nationals are turned away and asked to seek private healthcare. Today, the scores of marchers escalated the protest by taking it to the justice system.

“We want to see the laws of our country respected, all the way to the border. Things are getting out of hand and we want South Africans to live in a country that is clean and respected,” said Ngobese Zuma. “We are saying no to illegal immigration, and we want the justice system to take note of it.”
The aim of handing the memorandum over in court was to highlight flaws in the legal system, according to Ngobese Zuma, who called on the NPA to give an answer about the release of “undocumented foreign nationals by the courts back into communities that they have wronged”.

“We want to know why they are released once arrested and the matter has been registered in court. The police tell us that they arrest these guys and that they are released by the justice system. Why are you not protecting South Africans?” asked Ngobese Zuma.
Her concerns and questions were shared by Operation Dudula leader, Zandile Dabula, who raised issue with foreigners being given priority over South Africans. She said, “Illegal foreign nationals are a burden on our economy. It’s not right that we are remaining quiet; we must save that little that we have left.”
Dabula said the judicial system needs to be looked at. “They are a major contributing factor to this thing because they release illegal migrants on bail. There is no enforcement of the law.” She vowed that they will not stop the fight until the issue has been resolved.
