Cyclist tackles epic journey for Cheshire Homes

Garth Lezard has riden around the world raising awareness for Cheshire Homes and Services.

SINCE December 2010, Garth Lezard, a local photographic journalist and super cycling rugby fan, has visited 24 countries, six continents and met over 16 super rugby teams, in order to raise funds and create awareness for the Cheshire Disability Homes and Services.

Having taken on this epic cycle adventure alone and unassisted and faced a number of highs and lows during his journey, Lezard has finally arrived back home. For him, his first memorable highlight of the trip, was making the front page of a South American newspaper and realising that his quest to raise funds and create awareness of the charity had become a reality.

Arriving at uShaka Marine World recently, as his last stop of his epic journey, he was moved by the staff and residents from the Queensburgh Cheshire Home who went out to thank him for his achievements over the last two years and for supporting them.

Lezard was very emotional upon his arrival at uShaka, and humbly acknowledged the reception he received. “This experience has made me truly grateful to the people I have met on this incredible journey,” he said.

His plans for the future are to keep on raising funds and one day he hopes to establish a school in Durban for disabled disadvantaged children.
