KZN team scoops six titles
The Central KZN Bodyboarding brought home yet another title at the SA Champs.
THE Central KwaZulu-Natal (CKZN) bodyboarding team took six titles and won its 24th South African title at the SA champs in Port Alfred, which ran from 6 to 10 October.
Team captain, Michael Ostler, said: “With a majority of the team being new to the scene it was truly amazing to take them to the top first time around. Out of the eight divisions in the contest, CKZN managed to claim six titles!”
In the pro division, Stephen du Preez took the title, with Chris Green taking the men's title and the drop-knee division title. Bevan Wilson took the title in the masters' division, while Garryd Ensor Smith scooped the junior title and Sarah Housten the women's title.
The sportsmanship award went to Dean Conway and the Most Improved Rider was Garryd Ensor Smith.
“This year CKZN made history with a record win at the SA championship. As captain I have never been more proud of the team. We had super grom Liam Kavanagh making it all the way to the boys' final on his first year in the under 15 division. Liam, in my eyes, is a future SA champion and has more than a bright future ahead of him,” said Michael.
Another newbie to mention is Bevan Wilson, a newcomer to the scene and already an SA champion.
“There aren't words in my vocabulary to say of how stoked I am to see this all come about! A great result and a well deserved victory for him. Alongside him was Dean Conway, who won the sportsmanship award and secured himself with one of the most prestigious awards of the event. I am absolutely over the moon with the passion and dedication these guys have shown! A well deserved result for the two of them,” said Michael.
Michael said that for Chris Green, winning a double title was overdue and a well deserved victory on his behalf.
“Sarah Housten worked hard to secure a title and tore apart the competition, and pro rider Stephen Du Preez earned a well-deserved result. The man has had his head down focusing on this all year and it was truly great to see him raise the trophy after the final,” said Michael.
