Theo battles with the best of the best

Karateka, Theo Pillay, is 'superfit and raring to go' as he prepares for the World Cup Karate 2014.

KZN’s All Africa bronze medalist, Theo Pillay is aiming high for next month’s World Cup Karate 2014 in Germany.

The Protea SA all-styles national champion, who is a seasoned tournament campaigner, was part of a seven-man team SA who won bronze medals at the recent All Africa Championships hosted in Senegal .

“Having taking part in the Junior world cup in Spain last year has given me a clear indication as to what the standard of competition is at world cup events. I feel I am more prepared this year than I was last year in Spain,” said the Durban University of Technology student.

Theo said the guidance and preparation under Protea head coach Brando Pillay, made him feel very confident that he would make a podium finish in Germany at the tournament that is dubbed the “battle of the best of the best”.

“Theo has the discipline, talent and above all the passion to become a world champion and he may just do it in Germany,” said Brando Pillay, who has been mentoring Theo for the past five years.

Carlos Vilela, CEO of KSA, the national federation, said unreservedly that Theo Pillay was an excellent role model for today’s youth.
